All too often, exhibitions and the use of physical models is centred on the complete, the refined and resolved version of a given design. One of the many effects of this is the subliminal messaging to aspiring architects that the journey to that point is inconsequential, that the value is only in the product. This is something observed first hand year on year at B.15 Modelmaking Workshop, Manchester School of Architecture. The need to value critical reflection, patience and embrace mistakes as essential stepping stones to be celebrated has never been greater.
This new exhibition is focussed on the journey behind the complete, the mistakes and the steps of evolution that all design works goes through in order to reach the first 1:1 version in the building itself.
It will itself remain open, unfinished, changing as each stage is curated and presented as an honest picture of a beginning, middle and current state of design project as we span 3 years and 3 cities for one continued journey.
